And yes! I suppose it's a mixture of things. I've wanted to open my own cafe for some time, which necessitates being something of a coffee gourmet. So I've really tried to broaden my tastes and find something that works, that I could hopefully serve others!

I'd be happy to tell you more about it when we go out.

[She doesn't get Dressed Up like she might back home, mainly because she doesn't have all the nice outfits she might at home, but Haru certainly does attempt to clean up a little, because why wouldn't she? She's wearing a nicer dress and some cute earrings, but she doesn't want to go, like. Too formal or anything.]

[ yukari has spent much of her time before the Date agonizing over the fact that none of the outfits in her closet are good enough and being reminded (again) that prismatica's fashion tended to involve involve leg warmers and fingerless gloves when browsing online for something decent. ugh. what she wouldn't give for for a mall with racks of clothes without neon colors.

eventually, she resigns herself to making do with what she has, some cute skirt/tank combo tied together with a thicker pink cardigan that's suited for the colder weather. at around 7, yukari knocks on haru's door and takes a few calming breaths. she's got this. everything was gonna be cool. cool, cool, cool. ]

[Haru's found something that looks a lot like what she wears back home, which means that she and Yukari are both wearing rather pink sweaters. At least the tights she found are black.

She's waiting right by the door, so when the knock comes, it opens... unexpectedly quickly, perhaps.] Yukari-chan!

--hee hee, we kind of match, don't we?

[ whoa, okay, that was faster than expected. ]

Hey, Haru-chan! [ wait. yukari looks between her outfit and haru's for a moment. oh, god. were accidental fashion faux pas part of dating girls? not that they were dating, but--. focus, yukari.

she smiles and says with a shrug, ]

Great minds think alike?

[gracile]

I guess so! [She giggles again, taking a step towards Yukari, clasping her hands in front of her; she's slung her purse over one shoulder, so she's all ready to go.

She leans forward, a little bit, like she might be expecting something.

What does one do on a romantic date?] Um.

S-shall we go, then?

[ ah, haru is...very close. she looks nice. no, great. should she say anything? maybe she shouldn't? or maybe--

ugh, this self-doubt had to go. the guy on the network had said to explore. if she was going to explore then dammit, she was going to enjoy it. plus, haru had never been on a real date before. that settled it. yukari was going to make this the most enjoyable romantic first date anyone in lunatia has ever experienced or die trying.

she leans forward to kiss her on the cheek then loops her arm around hers to lead haru away from the door.]

Let's go!

[ yukari fills the walk over to the coffee shop around the corner with small talk. the shop is no azure, but it's close by, at least. location was key. once inside, she gestures toward the menu. ] Anything you want is on me. Honestly I'm interested in seeing what a coffee aficionado drinks. How do you choose?

[gracile]

[When Yukari leans in, Haru instinctively angles her face towards the other girl's-- she's assuming that they're going to do what they did the other month, lying in a field-- only to realize at the last second that Yukari is going for her cheek, and turning her head accordingly.

Oh no, she's already dating wrong.

Yukari taking her arm is a lovely distraction, though, and Haru's cheeks keep her warm all the way to the coffee shop nearby, when she sits across from the other girl.] Oh, thank you! That's very kind, Yukari-chan. I'm not used to not being able to treat people...

But, hm. First I like to look for the different type of roast, because that determines the basic type of the coffee. Dark roasts tend to be rich and complex, but often a little more bitter, whereas medium roasts are typically a nice middle ground.

Then, once I know what I'm in the mood for, I'll look at particular tasting notes.

[She explains with a smile.] Does that make sense?

[ 'you mean you wouldn't just buy the entire shop' is on the tip of her tongue, but yukari realizes that's more of a third or fourth date joke (if haru even understood it was a joke) and decides to reign it in.

and, man, haru knows her stuff. she rests her chin on her hand, nodding along at intervals. ]

It does, yeah. And tasting notes are flavors like chocolate or caramel that they'll have next to a particular coffee, right?

[gracile]

[Haru claps her hands together.] Yes, that's exactly it! They're also called "flavor notes," and they can be any of those things. Or there might be flavor notes of citrus, or brown sugar, or anything like that.

Now, sometimes that's because these elements are actually added to the beans in some way during the roasting process, but more often than not, it's just similarity in how it tastes. It doesn't mean there's actually chocolate or caramel in the coffee, it's just that you might have a deeper, more bitter taste that reminds drinkers of very dark chocolate, or a lighter, sweeter roast that tastes more caramel-y.

[She leans forward, scanning the menu.] A lot of people like to look more mature and impressive, and they'll say that they like dark roasts, but did you know that in blind taste testing, more people actually liked medium or even light roasts instead? I guess bitterness isn't for everyone!

[Are you getting the feeling that Haru could talk about this all day, Yukari?]

[ a little bit, yeah. while yukari might not have much to contribute, it's fun watching her talk about something she's passionate about. haru might just miss that doofy smile on yukari's face while she's taking a look at the menu. ]

Bitterness probably isn't for a lot of people. I can't imagine drinking black coffee. Sometimes a few of the crew on set will drink it if we're shooting really early or late and they always look like they swallowed poison. [ she sticks out her tongue in disgust. ] No thanks! I mean, what's the point of food if you don't even like the taste? Looking cool isn't worth it.

[gracile]

[Haru can't help but giggle at Yukari's answer.] I almost exclusively drink black coffee, Yukari-chan. I think putting anything else in it really just masks the taste!

[She tilts her head to the side.] But I don't disagree with you. It's not "better" to drink black coffee. If you prefer cream or sugar, you should drink what tastes good to you. It's important to be true to yourself, even if it's just in coffee.

Do you see anything that looks good to you?

[piercedyourheart]

[ she sticks out her tongue again. bleh. ] Give me sugary stuff any day. Still, you're right. The only person you should ever want to be is yourself. Someone that you can be proud of.

And it might just be a cafe au lait for me. I never get too crazy with my coffee orders. [ unless it's a space starbucks or something. then all bets are off. ] Does anything fit your gourmet tastes? [ a pause before a sheepish grin. ] ...'cause if it doesn't, we can find somewhere else. Seriously.

[gracile]

[Her smile is kind, reassuring--] It looks perfect, Yukari-chan. This was a really nice choice.

I think I'll have something medium... it's not yet cold enough for a real dark roast, I don't think. [She says, choosing one that sounds tasty to her.]

So, what are your hobbies, Yukari-chan? Do you have anything you're passionate about?

[piercedyourheart]

[ and very pretty, in yukari's opinion. ]

Me? [ she huffs a laugh. ] I'm so busy at home that I don't have a lot of time for hobbies and even when I have time, I look up so much about the hobby that I never actually do it.... But if I have to pick anything, it's archery. I don't even remember why I picked up as club back in high school, but I haven't stopped since.

[ yukari traces patterns in the grooves of their table, lost in thought. ] There's a kind of zen to it. When you draw back an arrow, you have to let go of anything that's bothering you. The only things that exist are you and the target. It all just...melts away until you take the shot. And when you're right on the mark, it's the most satisfying feeling in the entire world.

It's funny, archery helped me get both of my current jobs back at home. One is just a part-time and the other is--well, it's acting, and that was a hobby, too, but I never thought I'd do that professionally, you know? Guess life is weird like that.

[gracile]

Oh, I didn't know you were interested in archery! Your fingers must be very dextrous and nimble.

[Haru says cheerfully, without even the slightest hint of innuendo to her voice. Don't be a pervert, Yukari.] Honestly, that sounds very like why I enjoy gardening-- it's something that allows you to just focus on what you're doing and not worry about anything else. To cleanse your mind and your spirit, right?

You said you act on a television show, if I remember correctly. Goodness, I'm dating a celebrity!
